Well, a week ago today, those few minutes were just enough time for someone to drive off with my car, purse, and phone!
Alivia’s daycare is in a nice neighborhood in a circle with little to no traffic. I have never been worried about leaving my car for those few minutes but I was wrong. I quickly borrowed our provider Laura’s phone and called the police, Tom and started calling my bank and credit card companies. Tom stopped home on his way to get me to grab some account information and was met by the police.
Cop: “Sir were you or someone that lives here just involved in a hit and run accident?”
Tom: “Uh no but my wife’s car was just stolen…”
Fantastic…not only was it stolen but it was wrecked!
The police recovered my car a few block from the incident which was less than a mile from Laura’s house. They took my wallet and phone, however, were nice enough to leave my coach purse, external hard drive, and keys. We were able to cancel/freeze all our accounts before any major damage was done. There was one charge made at a gas station in which we were reimbursed, that may help identify the individual that so selfishly and wrongfully entered our life. They also tried to use my medical flex spending card at a gas station and were laughably denied. They arrested a suspect last Thursday and executed a search warrant of their house. They recovered several pieces of property (unfortunately not mine) that were involved in similar cases, some that seem to possibly be connected to mine. We are hoping that with the surveillance footage of my card being used they will be able to charge the suspect with my case as well. So, thanks to the jerk individual that stole/wrecked my car and attempted to invade our finances…this is what my car looks like and why I am driving a little compact car during these snowy, icy, icky winter conditions.
Now, we are moving on and living in gratitude that Alivia and I were both out of the car and safe, that no one was seriously injured in the accident, and there was no major impact on our finances (minus our deductible and rental car expenses).
